Marc Casado ‘not very happy’ with his lack of game time at Barcelona

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has admitted Marc Casado is likely frustrated with his lack of minutes at the club this season.

Casado has made 16 appearances in all competitions in the current campaign but half of those have come as a substitute.

The emergence of Eric Garcia as another option in midfield means Casado has even more competition for a place, although he did feature as a right-back in the Copa del Rey win over Guadalajara.

Flick has acknowledged that Casado can play in a variety of positions but says it’s tough getting into the team at Camp Nou.

“I think he can play on the right, as a full-back, but he’s more of a defensive midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder,” he told reporters.

“For me, it’s important to have more players in that position. He’s not very happy with the minutes he’s getting, but this is Barça, a team with good players and everyone wants to play.”

Casado will likely be among the substitutes again on Sunday when Barcelona take on Villarreal with Eric Garcia and Frenkie de Jong expected to start.
