Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed the club are working on plans to build a statue of Lionel Messi outside the Camp Nou.
The famous old stadium is still undergoing renovation work, although the first team are finally expected to be able to play home games again at Camp Nou after the international break.
Messi has paid a secret midnight visit to his former home this week, making it clear how much he misses Barca, and Laporta says the GOAT could soon have his own statue outside.
“All us culés would like to have a statue of Leo Messi at the Spotify Camp Nou. We’re working on it and, if the family wants, when we have the design we’ll talk with them,” he said.
Barcelona are also still planning to hold some kind of tribute to Messi once the Camp Nou renovations are finally complete, with Laporta speaking about those plans earlier this week.
“It’s only right that Leo receives the most beautiful tribute in the world. When it’s finished, we’ll have a capacity of 105,000 fans, so we’d love to have him there,” he explained.
“We’re working on the tribute and on ensuring that the best football in the world can be seen, and as part of the tribute, we’d like to offer Leo the tribute he deserves.”
