Robert Lewandowski was a happy man after scoring in Barcelona’s emphatic 4-0 win over Athletic Club in La Liga on Saturday afternoon.
The veteran striker broke the deadlock against Ernesto Valverde’s side, becoming the first player to score at Camp Nou since it reopened, and he admitted it was a special day.
“It’s a special day, we’re very happy and happy to play at the Camp Nou. We played very well from the start, two goals in each half. More important than the points is to have returned, playing here is something else,” he told the media.
“From the beginning we had in our heads to attack to score the first goal. For me, it’s a very special one, I’m very proud, but the most important thing is the team.”
“When we play at the Camp Nou we are stronger. I had a good feeling from the beginning, I’m 37 years old, but for me it was also a special day.”
Barcelona returned to action after the international break in great shape, despite being without several key players due to injury and suspension, and have moved level on points with Real Madrid at the top of the table ahead of Los Blancos’ game with Elche.
