Barcelona are currently being linked with several center-backs amid speculation they will try to strengthen their backline in the summer.
Alessandro Bastoni, Nico Schlotterbeck and Pau Torres have all been mentioned as possible targets, while Mundo Deportivo now claim Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol is also an option.
The report states that the defenders most liked by the club are Gvardiol and Bastoni, saying both fit the profile that Barca are looking for perfectly.
Obviously signing either player would not be straightforward, and would be expensive, but MD aren’t giving up hope and point out that Barca are hoping to be operating under the 1:1 rule again in the summer.
The other factor that might give Barcelona hope is both players are under contract until 2028. That means next summer is a potentially pivotal time for the duo and their clubs.
With two years left on their contracts, it’s often a time that clubs starting thinking about extensions and players must decide whether to stay where they are or think about moving on.
