Barcelona’s young central defender Pau Cubarsí has reached a milestone few achieve at such an age, marking his 100th official appearance for the club in the Copa del Rey clash against Guadalajara at the Pedro Escartín Stadium. Remarkably, this centenary came in the same competition where he first stepped onto the field for the first team in January 2024 against Unionistas de Salamanca.
Since his debut, Cubarsí’s rise has been fast. Still just 18 years old, he has become a cornerstone of Barcelona’s defense, praised for his maturity, tactical intelligence, and ability to compete at the highest level. Over these 100 matches, he has played 67 in La Liga, 22 in the UEFA Champions League, nine in the Copa del Rey, and two in the Supercopa de España, contributing a goal in the Copa del Rey semifinal against Atlético de Madrid and five assists, including one to Jules Koundé on his debut.
His achievements extend beyond personal statistics. Cubarsí already boasts a Copa del Rey, a La Liga title, and a Supercopa de España, all won in 2025, as well as Olympic gold with Spain at the Paris 2024 Games. The departure of Iñigo Martínez, with whom Cubarsí formed a formidable defensive partnership, has posed new challenges, yet he remains a regular starter under Hansi Flick, continuing to impress despite the heightened responsibilities.
Born in 2007 in Estanyol, Girona, Cubarsí joined Barcelona’s academy from Girona in 2018 and swiftly progressed through the ranks. “Cuba” fulfilled his dream of signing for the club at a very young age, and seven years later, he is celebrating milestones that underscore both his present impact and promising future.
Despite his youth, Cubarsí has already experienced some unforgettable moments on the pitch. His headed goal against Atlético de Madrid in that thrilling 4-4 Copa del Rey semifinal match remains one of the highlights of his young career, a moment he described as particularly special since he had never scored at Barça Atlètic or Juvenil A.
