Hansi Flick warned Barcelona can’t win the Champions League ‘with these defenders’

Barcelona have been warned once again that their backline is not strong enough to win the Champions League this season.

Hansi Flick side made it to the semi-finals last season and will be hoping to go on better this year, but former midfielder Emmanuel Petit feels there is no way they can be crowned champions of Europe.

“Can you win the Champions League with these defenders? No way! That’s impossible. They concede so many goals. We saw that last season in the semi-finals against Inter,” he told Snabbare.

“How can you concede seven goals in the semi-finals? Then you will tell me, ‘Yeah, but they scored six again. If you take away Lamine Yamal, what’s going on at Barcelona? Offensively yes, not defensively. It’s like a casino, they’ve bet everything on Lamine Yamal.

“Lamine Yamal by himself cannot win the Champions League. Messi, with all the respect, I have such huge respect for him, he would not have been winning the Champions League if he didn’t have Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, those guys.”

Barcelona currently have work to do to qualifying automatically for the next round. They currently sit down in 18th place in the standings ahead of their final three matches against Eintracht Frankfurt, Slavia Prague and FC Copenhagen.
