Jan Virgili starred for Spain’s Under-21s on Friday night as he scored a brilliant brace in a 7-0 thrashing of San Marino.
The 19-year-old, who left Barcelona for Mallorca in the summer, bagged his first goal with an absolute golazo that makes for a great watch.
Here it is:
And he wasn’t done there, either. Virgili scored his second of the match early in the second half with another lovely effort.
Virgili moved to Mallorca on a five-year deal but Barca retain a percentage of a future sale and have a right of first refusal for any transfer involving Virgili.
The teenager spoke before the game about how he’d like to play for Barca again.
“I will always be grateful to Barcelona. It was a difficult decision (to leave), but I was clear that I wanted to play in La Liga. At Barcelona it was very difficult to have opportunities. I went out in search of minutes and opportunities, although it hurt me to leave the club,” he told Marca.
“If one day the doors of the first team open for me, I would be delighted. It was and is my dream since always. I would have loved to make my debut with the first team, even if it was only for one day. But football doesn’t end there. Everyone has to make their way and find their place. If you do it right, the prize can come.”
Virgili was called up by Hansi Flick in pre-season but didn’t make the tour squad. He certainly seems to be one to watch and will be back in action for Spain on Tuesday against Romania.
