Luis de la Fuente defends Lamine Yamal over Clasico clash with Dani Carvajal

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has defended Lamine Yamal over his Clasico clash with Dani Carvajal.

Real Madrid were riled by some pre-match comments from Yamal which led to a confrontation at the final whistle as Carvajal decided to approach the teenager.

De la Fuente insists that Yamal was not being disrespectful and says there’s “no problem” between the two players.

“Something that is non-negotiable for me is respect. With respect, we can build anything you want, we can build any building, any relationship. You have to be careful with your expressions, with the way you say things, because sometimes they are taken out of context and seem like much more than what you said,” he told Cope.

“In any case, you have to be very careful not to offend. You can say many things without being disrespectful. It doesn’t mean that Lamine said it with the intention of being disrespectful, I’m sure he didn’t.

“I’ve spoken with both of them, and we’ve talked about other things, and with Dani, mainly about his injury. It can’t be any other way; that’s the first thing, the priority, that he recovers. With Lamine, we also discussed these issues, and also his injury, obviously. We talked about that too, and everything was perfectly normal. I was sure that if we were there at the same time, there wouldn’t be any problem, none at all.”

Both players are missing from the current Spain squad due to injury. Yamal has undergone treatment for pubalgia, while Carvajal is set for a longer spell out after having a knee operation.
