Wojciech Szczesny is being tipped to get the nod in goal for Barcelona on Tuesday when Hansi Flick’s side take on Guadalajara in the Copa del Rey.
The goalkeeper has been passed fit for the game, after missing the win over Osasuna due to illness, and is set to take his place in the starting XI, according to RAC1.
The report adds that Szczesny remains ahead of Ter Stegen in the pecking order at Barcelona, and the Germany international has been told by Flick “if he stays, he’ll have very few chances to play.”
Ter Stegen is also back to full fitness after undergoing back surgery in the summer but his future at the club remains uncertain.
Flick was quizzed on the situation ahead of the Copa del Rey tie and insisted “it’s his decision and he’s the one who has to decide, not me.”
Ter Stegen is thought to be eager to stay but is facing spending the rest of the season on the bench if he does not move on in the January transfer window.
With the World Cup looming, it’s not the place he wants to be and means he may have little choice but to move on if he wants to be Germany’s first choice at next summer’s tournament.
