Lionel Messi’s Camp Nou visit takes Barcelona by surprise

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has posted some images on social media of a recent late-night visit to the Camp Nou which is currently undergoing renovation work.

“Last night I returned to a place I miss with my soul,” is how he started his post before going on to add: “I hope one day I can come back, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to…”

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona didn’t know anything about Messi’s visit and there was “total confusion” at the club when his Instagram post was viewed.

Mundo Deportivo have a similar report and claim that Messi was at the stadium at around midnight last night.

They say he spoke to security from Limak, who forwarded his request to get inside to the club, and permission was then granted. However, the player’s entourage claim he entered the stadium without speaking to anyone from the club.

Barcelona have reacted to his visit already. They shared one of Messi’s pictures of the GOAT on the pitch and added: “You’re always welcome at your home Leo.”

Messi is currently in Spain on international duty with Argentina. The reigning world champions are training in Alicante ahead of a friendly in Angola.
