Joan Laporta’s adviser talks up Barcelona move for Julian Alvarez

Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s adviser Enric Masip has talked up a possible move for Atletico star Julian Alvarez.

The Argentina international has been linked with Barcelona for a little while now, although it’s thought his lofty price tag will see the Catalans priced out of any potential move.

Yet Masip says that Alvarez would suit Barcelona and isn’t out of their financial reach.

“I would say yes, he is a great player, a player with incredible quality and he is having a great season at Atletico,” he told Jota Jordi on ‘Solo para Culés TV’ as “he is one of the great goalscorers in the world, it’s clear.”

“The president said that Barça always have to be in a position to be able to sign whoever they consider to strengthen the squad, which I have no doubt will be like that after the homework we have done in the economic plan and especially with the issue of the squad and the salary balance that exists between young people and veterans.

“Barça could face that situation if it were the case, I have no doubt that it will be like that.”

Laporta did say recently that Barcelona had funds available if a big-money signing was needed but warned the club won’t spend for the sake of it. He explained: “We’re capable of making a significant investment, but we won’t go crazy with signings.”
