Spain Under-21 boss David Gordo has spoken about Marc Bernal after leaving the midfielder out of his latest squad.
Bernal was called up to the last squad, a decision which did not go down well with Hansi Flick, but subsequently dropped out and didn’t feature.
He hasn’t made it onto the list this time around, with Gordo pointing to his lack of game time as the reason.
“Marc is one of our own, but he’s not in a comfortable situation right now. He’s getting very little playing time. And we’ve brought the squad we think will best help us get six crucial points for our league position,” he told a press conference.
“He’s not on the list, and it’s not something that worries me. I’m more concerned about other absences that I would have liked to see included. Some are due to injury, and others due to limited playing time. Here, we aim to have all the players available and willing to help us qualify for the European Championship.”
Bernal has made just four substitute appearances so far this season for Barcelona as the Catalans slowly bring him back into the fold after a long spell out.
Yet there has been speculation he will be handed more minutes in the coming months, with Barca hoping he can start to play a more important role from January onwards.
