‘Going to the Bernabéu is dangerous’ – La Liga told referees ‘don’t want’ Real Madrid or Barcelona games

La Liga have been told that referees don’t want to handle Real Madrid or Barcelona games right now due to the regular headlines created when decisions go against the two clubs.

Real Madrid TV have made a regular feature of criticising match officials and have even claimed recently that “La Liga is being corrupted” by errors made during matches.

Former referee Juan Andújar Oliver has analysed the situation and admits there are problems.

“Referees don’t want to be assigned to either Madrid or Barcelona,” he told ‘El Programa de Ortegae.’ “In Madrid, given the state they’re in, going to the Bernabéu is dangerous.

“Real Madrid is at odds with everyone… the poor referee goes there and he’s defenseless. Between Real Madrid’s television coverage, the club’s management, and the fans, they’re all over the referee.”

Andujar also added that players aren’t helping as they “swarm him like vultures.”

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are back in action this weekend, and there’s plenty of pressure on Los Blancos heading into their match against Alaves after consecutive defeats to Manchester City and Celta Vigo.
