Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has been full of praise for Barcelona’s Dani Olmo ahead of his team’s final two World Cup qualifiers.
Olmo has struggled to make an impact at Barcelona so far this season, with injuries once again a theme, but the Spain manager thinks he’s made for the national team.
“Dani is a footballer who can play in several positions. With me he has played as a right winger, a left winger, a midfielder and a centre forward. I have no doubt, he is a footballer who seems to be made for the Spanish national team. He is that type of player who, even when things are bad with his club, plays at a very high level with the Spanish national team,” he told reporters.
“Without going any further, at the European Championship, he arrived with physical problems and then was decisive. Humanly he is of a great level too. He may or may not play, but he will always contribute to the team.”
Olmo will be hoping he can play a key role for Spain over the international break against Georgia and Turkey before heading back to Barcelona for games against Athletic and Chelsea.
