Barcelona hit by injury blow as Aitana Bonmati suffers fractured fibula on Spain duty

Barcelona Femeni have been hit by a serious injury blow as Aitana Bonmati has suffered a broken fibula while on international duty with Spain.

The RFEF has issued a statement to confirm the news:

“Aitana Bonmatí finished the morning session at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas in pain after a bad landing in an accidental action.

“Following tests carried out by the medical services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation on Sunday, November 30, he has been diagnosed with a fracture in his left fibula.

“The player, originally from Ribas, will return to Barcelona and rejoin her club to begin her recovery period.”

Aitana was preparing for the Nations League final but will now face a significant amount of time on the sidelines.

Early reports suggest that the Barca star will miss two months but it could be longer if it’s decided she needs to undergo surgery.

Get well soon, Aitana!
