Barcelona confirm Andreas Christensen has suffered ACL tear

Barcelona have offered an update on Andreas Christensen’s fitness after he was ruled out of Sunday’s game against Villarreal due to injury.

The Dane was a late withdrawal from the travelling squad after sustained a problem in training before the match and it’s now been revealed he’s suffered a partial ACL tear.

Here’s the club’s official statement:

“The first team player Andreas Christensen has a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee as the result of an unfortunate twist of the knee in Saturday’s training session.  After tests carried out on the player, a conservative course of treatment has been chosen.   The player’s recovery time will depend on his progress.”

There’s no date given yet for when Christensen may return but early reports suggest he will miss several months which is a huge blow for club and player, particularly as he’s out of contract next summer.

Christensen’s injury also leaves Barca short in defence and means the club could potentially look to add a player in the January transfer window.
