Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen linked with Aston Villa transfer

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has reportedly attracted interest from Aston Villa ahead of the January transfer window.

Ter Stegen’s future is currently uncertain as he’s lost his place in the team but is thought to need regular football if he wants to be Germany’s No. 1 at the World Cup.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Villa are keen on Ter Stegen due to doubts over Emi Martinez. The Argentina international has been suffering with back problems this season which has caused him to miss games.

Martinez has also lost the captaincy at Villa, after a summer where he was linked with an exit, which has apparently led the Premier League side to ask about Ter Stegen.

MD say that Girona are also interested, as they have issues in goal, although it’s difficult to see Ter Stegen moving to another La Liga rival.

Emery’s side may prove to be an interesting option for Ter Stegen. The Villans are currently flying high in the Premier League and can also offer Europa League football.
