Barcelona coach Thiago Alcantara has reportedly turned down the chance to leave the club and take over at La Liga struggles Levante.
Levante sacked manager Julián Calero at the start of the month after a poor run of results and are now searching for a replacement.
According to Matteo Moretto, Thiago was approached about the possibility of becoming the club’s new boss but turned down the offer.
Levante are also said to have approached Raúl González, but the former Real Madrid star has also said no.
The 34-year-old spoke about his decision to move into coaching after hanging up his boots in summer 2024.
“I am working on my coaching, and am passionate about understanding and learning from other areas relating to performance. For example, talking with physiotherapists or fitness trainers about what they do,” he told the Coaches’ Voice.
“If I progress as a coach, it is because my talent perhaps wasn’t meant only to be a football player, but also to help others. I am very didactic; I want to help a lot, and can direct my talent towards making a real difference in the lives of other athletes.”
Thiago returned to Barcelona to work under Hansi Flick for a second time in September. The former Barca star’s role involves helping with tactical aspects, preparing training sessions and working with the younger players.
