Could Inigo Martinez make shock return to Barcelona in January?

Inigo Martinez has seemingly got the rumor mill all excited this week as talk of a shock return to Barcelona in the January transfer window has emerged.

The speculation appears to have started from Joan Fontes on X and a post yesterday that read: “Íñigo, desperate to return to Barça.”

Fast forward a few hours and notorious rumor-mongers Fichajes posted a report that read “Iñigo Martínez is pushing to return to Barcelona in January.”

The report goes on to talk about how Martinez is eager to return on loan in the January window and “is confident that his desire to return will be fulfilled.”

But Diario Sport have been quick to pour cold water all over this one. The Catalan daily report that there is “no chance” that Martinez will be back at Barca this winter.

The report goes on to say that Barca are confident Ronald Araujo will be back soon and insists there’s no truth in speculation that Martinez wants out of Al-Nassr.

Sport also point to the fact that Barca have moved on from Martinez and currently have Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck in mind as a future defensive reinforcement.

Deco’s recent comments about the winter transfer market are also highlighted. Barca’s sporting director has said again this week he doesn’t think the club need to strengthen this January.
