Agent places Atalanta’s Ederson as potential Barcelona signing

Barcelona’s midfield struggles were laid bare in their recent clash with Chelsea, leaving the Catalans searching for reinforcements. Amid that, Brazilian agent Andre Cury has highlighted a potential solution: Atalanta’s Ederson.

“A player I think could fit very well into Barca’s system, bringing a lot of physicality and energy, is Ederson, who plays for Atalanta. It’s an opportunity because his contract is expiring. Atalanta have not wanted to sell him despite very high offers. I think they will sell him in this January window or in the summer,” Cury told Cadena SER.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who moved to Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022 for €22.9 million, has dealt with some injury setbacks this season but still managed 11 appearances across Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. He is familiar with Barcelona, having scored in Atalanta’s 2-2 draw at Camp Nou last season.

Cury also suggested that a transfer could be financially feasible for the Catalans. “[Atalanta wanted] a lot of money, between 60 and 75 million euros. He is close to the end of his contract, so they could cut the price in half, to 30 to 40 million euros. But he is a spectacular player, with some of the best statistics in Europe for his position.”

The agent’s recommendation comes at a time when Barcelona is tied down with key midfield contracts. Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Pedri, and Marc Casado are all locked into long-term deals, making Ederson an alternative profile rather than a direct replacement.

Cury, who has a long-standing relationship with Barcelona and previously facilitated deals for players like Neymar and Vitor Roque, emphasized the need for more physical presence in midfield in European competitions. “In Europe, things always happen that require us to have more physical players to help today,” he added.
