Athletic Bilbao players apparently call renovated Camp Nou “ugly”

FC Barcelona finally returned to action at their renovated Spotify Camp Nou on Saturday, ending a 909-day wait for fans to experience football in the iconic stadium. The home side wasted no time, with Robert Lewandowski opening the scoring just four minutes in, and Hansi Flick’s team went on to dominate Athletic Bilbao 4-0 in a match that will long be remembered by supporters.

For the visiting Basque side, managed by Ernesto Valverde, the task was daunting from the start. Athletic players knew they would need near-perfect execution to challenge Barcelona, but the Blaugrana’s performance left them struggling to keep pace.

Off the pitch, however, cameras from Movistar+’s program El Día Después captured the reactions of several Athletic players as they first took in the newly refurbished stadium.

As the footage shows and according to the lip readers, Guruzeta looked around the arena in visible surprise, spinning to take in all the details. Álex Berenguer broke the silence with a question: “Everything still looks the same, doesn’t it?” Meanwhile, Urko Izeta expressed himself bluntly: “This is honestly so incredibly ugly.”

The clip has sparked a flurry of reactions online. On TikTok, some Barcelona fans were quick to respond, with many saying what was really ugly was to lose 4-0.
